The Yule Ball used to be held in celebration of the Triwizard Champions and the Triwizard Cup. This was a game that used to be held in different locations amongst the three schools that participated in it, one being Hogwarts and the other two being Durmstrung and Beauxbaton. It was something that used to be looked forward to, but at the same time feared, because of the fact that it was something that was done by the student alone without the help of their professors. It was something that allowed them to display their skill, intelligence, wisdom and everything that they had learned at school and gave them a chance to put it into practice. It was a chance for an unknown to become a champion of the school, for the underdog to take a stand; it was just a chance for a student to experience danger, something that they never normally encountered within the safety of the walls of their respective schools. Now in a time when the children could encounter danger within an inch of the walkway of their home, it had been decided to have the Yule Ball once more. Needless to say Raiden found it all rather amusing.
Dressed in his fine dark green, almost black, with white lining dress robes, tailored to perfection, accompanied with black leather Italian shoes and his hair ever so slightly gelled and combed back, Raiden made his way from the Slytherin dungeon to the Great Hall where the ball was to be held. It was strange to be attending the Yule Ball alone. Yes, he had attended the Time Warp Dance alone, but that was because he had been required to. It would have been more difficult to slip off and dress into his Death Eater robes unnoticed if he was with someone that evening. However this evening was different, there was no plan to attack the castle tonight and here he was Raiden Nott, attending the ball stag. He would have thought it unacceptable before he had gotten his Dark Mark, but now he viewed things differently. Perfecting himself in the art of magic was more important to him now than ensuring that he kept up certain pretences. How was he supposed to schmooze over girls and sometimes even the odd boy, when he was constantly creeping out into hidden areas of the castle to practice and train every spare chance he got? If he wanted to make his mark within the Death Eater ranks than he would have to prove himself and since he was still a student the only way was to ensure that he could still be useful even if he was considered a child in the eyes of some.
The walk up to the Great Hall was a crowded one. Even though Slytherins presented themselves as people who preferred to keep themselves to themselves it seemed that they never missed the chance to party. Raiden supposed that was just the child with in all of them. Sometimes he often forgot that he only turned seventeen a few months ago, and had become of age and that most of the students of the school where still young and even more of them immature. Raiden looked upon the faces of his fellow Slytherins and wondered how many of them were truly Slytherins and how many of them were merely placed in the house, because they one or two of their traits were that that Salazar Slytherin believed in. He was certain that they all were not of pureblood because that was something that had been watered down through the years and not many true pureblood families existed anymore. His family was one of the few. The Malfoy’s were another, but there son’s allegiance was no longer theirs and then there were the Lestranges.
When Raiden finally reached the Great Hall he hardly noticed the decorations which had he done so he would have had to admit they didn’t look half bad. Then again, you would expect that somebody in this school to be able to do something with magic. Raiden gave the curt greeting to those that offered him one and even went further and greeted those he knew to be his enemy, smiling his fake yet enigmatic smile the entire time. Once he arrived at the drinks table he wished that for once the school had opted to offer something stronger for those who were allowed to drink, but he understood that things had to be managed and helped himself to a butterbeer as he looked toward the dance floor.

Oh the smells of the room filled her nostrils up to the fullest. Oh why couldn't they just stop? So luscious sweet smells. Rowan was almost intoxicated with the smell of blood. Did someone cut themselves? Or was she driving herself crazy with her counterparts time? Why she was holding back? This couldn't be happening. Was this what the teachers worried about? Her attacking a student, covered in blood? She could see the headlines of the Daily Prophet. Student drained of all their blood. Vampire to blame. Oh wouldn't that just be lovely? Her secret ruined, her life destroyed. Her will used against her? A toy. A simple toy for those who wished to use her for their own good. She needed a bit more self control than what she was letting herself to have. She wasn't this crazy monster. Oh no. She was a hybrid of a vampire and a human. How crazy, someone probably wouldn't believe her if she said anything to them unless they had full proof, but would they see such a thing? Bloody hell no!
Rowan's blue gown matched her house colors alright. Minus the black, but who cared about the black? She would take to the night in the forest after the ball if she made it that far. If the blood-lust she was having allowed her to wait for a few hours more. At least until all the students were in their warm beds enjoying a terrible night of sleep from being up on their feet the whole night. She figured this to be a terrible idea. Dances. Terrible thought to have. Especially for a half vampire who couldn't control themselves enough to know when to wait. Rowan stood beside the drink table to keep her thirst down as much as she hated it. Why was it that these drinks sucked? Truly they did? Of course for a vampire, they couldn't serve blood. Someone might get confused and start to panic and freak out. Though she settled for a butterbeer which didn't do anything for her. Just increased her hunger and that blood-lust.
"And they couldn't think of any other drinks for those who could drink something better than this?"
She was saying this to herself, but of course she was fine if anyone answered her. It was spoken in a voice of annoyance and would rather have a cup of warm blood. Which ever was available. Though she could see much of the different colors surrounding the Great Hall. Greens, Blues, Yellows, Reds. BORING! She figured people needed a better sense of color. At least the blue went well with her. Everything went well with Rowan. It was how she made herself blend in with the crowd. Though the fine gentleman standing near the drinks table in green probably was trying to look as if he was blending in. She figured he was working to hard not to be noticed as someone ready for trouble. She just figured these things out on her own. Made her own story about the different people she saw. How they acted. What went through their mind. Their mind was another story. She actually KNEW what was going on in their head, but did they know that? Probably not. She was that good. She enjoyed it. How much longer was this dance going to last? She was already feeling a little woozy and it seemed like it just started. Gazing toward the dance floor Raiden watched as the mass of couples dancing seemed to grow in number with each passing blink of his eye. He had also thought for a moment that he had glimpsed Vivianne Flint on the dance floor with someone that he couldn’t place and if he couldn’t place the person that meant that they were not important enough to be dancing hand in hand with Vivianne Flint. She had a reputation to uphold, but since he couldn’t be sure about what he had seen since she seemed to have disappeared between the mass of couples before him, this meant that he would hold his tongue. Raiden wasn’t one to work on assumption. He hadn’t even liked talking to Scorpius about the rumours he had heard about Scorpius, even if it had later been proven true. He could feel the creases on his forehead form at the mere thought of his traitorous ex-best friend and immediately removed the thought from his mind returning his attention back to the dance floor before him instead.
As his blue-eyes roved the transformed Great Hall, they landed on a pale blonde making her way over to the drinks table where he currently presided. His eyes still on the girl he took a sip from the glass of butter beer he had picked up earlier and looked her over. He was certain that he had seen her around before, but he was also certain that he had no idea who she was. This meant that she was definitely not a Slytherin. Raiden could be certain about that because he knew most, if not all of the students of Slytherin either because of quidditch try-outs or because of most of them being told about purebloods and the sort and the Nott name being one of the oldest and richest pureblood names. Raiden couldn’t see her as a Gryffindor, though the possibility was there. It wasn’t like he knew every student in the school. Only those deemed relevant were of importance to him, and those two families that seemed to be the thorn in his side, the Weasleys and the Potters.
Realizing that then that his particular train of thought at that particular moment was leaving him staring at the girl he shook himself out of it and returned his gaze to the dance floor. Finishing his drink he placed the glass on the table listening carefully for the pop as it disappeared, knowing that the house-elves in the kitchen situated below the Great Hall, had already cleaned it and filled it with butterbeer once more and returned it to the table where all the other glasses sat. However boredom crept in and he found his eyes returning to gaze at the girl once more, then with his mind made up he took the few steps over to where the girl stood and offered her a greeting, “Evening.” It was hardly a good evening, so he wasn’t going to lie, though there was no doubt that he would do it at some point if the conversation went on longer. Lieing was Raiden’s nature. “Might I complement you on how exquisite you look,” it was rhetorical question and if she had a brain in her head then she would catch on. Plus, two offerings on his side so far and he had yet to lie. It wasn’t like the girl wasn’t a looker. He wouldn’t have made his way over if she didn’t have some attractive quality about her.

Oh.... he was coming over to her. How lovely! Rowan felt so thrilled to see the Slytherin come over to chat with her. Truly she felt terrible at the moment. Lack of blood and air, probably not a good mix, but then again who was going to know what she was feeling? She wasn't exactly someone who shared her feelings with anyone. She wasn't an open person as far as anyone knew. Her past was dark and deary and it was a sore subject to talk about. Full of misery and lies and death. Death. She loved death. The life being taken away as the heart stops pulsing as everything starts to slow down. Oh how she loved the feeling of it being taken away.
He thought she looked lovely? Ha! Truly this wasn't her best outfit. It was just something that matched for the sake of this godforsaken dance. Of course she didn't answer him as she looked him over bit by bit by bit. It was truly amazing how you could look someone over for a while and still not find something boring about some people, which was why she was staring longer than she should have, but maybe it was because she kept staring at his throat with the major veins and the thought of blood. Of course she wouldn't take a Slytherin. They would only come back to beat her up for taking their lovely friend standing in front of her.
"How long have you been staring in this general direction? Because I highly doubt you're looking at the Gryffindorfs and the Hufflepoofs."
She smiled a little too much, showing teeth with a bit of a sharp edge. She was usually a bit softer on the sarcasm when she wasn't so hyped up of a blood-lust. But at the moment, she could have cared less, she wanted to have a grand time while it lasted and wait until everyone went to bed. Or until everyone had to go to bed. It was better that way. No one could see her head out, but of course she would have to change out of this dreadful outfit. How could anyone stand wearing a dress? Truly, Rowan felt completely uncomfortable in this. Her tongue ran over the sharp points of her canines as she looked around the Great Hall. It seemed as if everyone was having a great time. Or it was what appeared on everyone's faces. Perhaps they were dreading that they ever came to this dreadful dance. What did this charming Slytherin want? She turned her attention back to him to look him over once more. There was something odd about him. She could see how he held himself up that he was hiding something, but it didn't bother him to act so suspicious. Either way it didn't bother her that he was hiding something. She had her secrets. And hers would probably lead to her death in the information was put into the wrong hands. And those that wanted to rid the world of vampires. "I'm Rowan." [/blockquote][/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - finished! How long had he been staring in her general direction? He had started staring at her when she had made her way over to that table and had remained looking at her while he had considered to which house she might belong and the people that were relevant to his life. So it would have easily been over two minutes and could have come close around five and that was unacceptable. That might leave her to believe that he was more interested in her than he actually was. As mentioned before he certainly considered her adequate in the looks department, perhaps even a bit more so, but there were other qualities that needed to be met before he would consider a girl beyond more than a one night stand or something more and since he couldn’t place her he doubted that a possibility. However there was no need to ruin the moment and let the girl feel bad before they really got to know each other. Besides he had been staring at her and she was correct in her assumption that it wasn’t like he would be staring at some Gryffindor or some Hufflepuff. At least now he knew what house she belonged to, Ravenclaw.
His attention was caught by her teeth that seemed to have a sharp edge, but figured that he had to be seeing things. Perhaps her teeth had caught the light from one of the chandeliers and it had made him see things that weren’t actually there. Raiden had also taken note that she seemed to be looking him over for a bit of time. He couldn’t blame her. He was the epitome of perfection. He had the looks, of that he was sure. He worked hard on maintaining them and he was blessed with natural good looks as well which made things easier sometime. Raiden was also aware that besides the looks he had there were other qualities that made him tempting. Of course to some people it actually had the opposite affect and scared them off. He didn’t really care. Those that were scared off were those that weren’t worth his time anyhow. Leaning casually against the drinks table Raiden looked once to the girl whom he now knew was called Rowan and then to the door of the Great Hall where his eyes were caught by none other than Albus Potter. He would have like to have kept his attention on Albus for a little longer to know who the girl he was escorting onto the dance floor was, but it would have been rude to ignore Rowan and so he turned his attention back to Rowan.
He smirked before deciding to respond to Rowan and her comment about him staring at her. “You can hardly blame me now can you,” then he grabbed another drink from the table for himself and for Rowan. Holding her glass out, he took a sip of the butter-beer from his own glass as he looked toward the dance floor once more looking for Albus Potter, though he was careful to remain mindful of Rowan next to him. “Now what would give you that impression,” he said still smirking as he caught sight of Albus and then made a note of his whereabouts before turning his attention back to Rowan. He was trying to see what this girl knew of him or if she was merely making an assumption about him. There was nothing on him that would make anyone think that he was a Slytherin, so how had she come to make a statement like that? He needed to know if he was loosing his touch in his ability to lie and blend or if his nature was just so powerful now that it was evident what and who he was.

Rowan turned her glaze to where the boy in front of her had been looking at. Ah, Albus Potter. He wouldn't be able to get a hold of that boy if he wanted to. He'd be dead before he got the chance, Rowan knew that much as she took the butterbeer Raiden handed to her. She took a slip of it noting, that it wasn't blood, but she had to hold off for a few more hours. Just a few more hours and than she could hunt. Give her secret away now and she was dead. Dead as dust. "Oh, I wouldn't really know. People have their interests. Maybe's the blood, you don't like muggles and you wish to rid them from the world. I don't like muggles, terrible monsters. Murdered my mother when I was five. Though with my father you'd best stay away. Not a happy sight when he's angry, which was probably what you look like when you want to go up against the Potter boy you keep staring at. I'm not an idiot.
"Was there something stuck in my teeth?"
She changed the subject quickly as she remembered the expression on his face when she had smiled. She ran a finger over her canines noting the sharp edge. She pulled away to find that she had cut her finger. She couldn't wipe her finger on her dress, it would ruin it. He didn't see did he? She'd probably be pestered about her teeth. Why weren't they hidden? Was it to strong of a blood-lust to handle? Oh she needed to hold out for a few more hours. Quickly enough, she stuck her in finger in her mouth to wipe the blood off her finger. Bad idea for sure... Quickly pulling her finger out of her mouth, she set the butterbeer down. She didn't know what she would do. If her eyes would change to a red color or go to a darken blue color. Normally she never waited that long to feed on blood. Though this ball had set her back a bit. She couldn't sneak out without anybody following her and she didn't need anyone to follow her to the Forbidden Forest. It was too much, and if word got out what she was, who knew what was going to happen. Her only regret was showing Raiden her teeth and then rubbing her finger along them to see if they were still there. She should have just ran her tongue along them, it would have saved her so much worry she wouldn't know what to do with herself. What would people think of her if she went ahead and told the world what she was? Though maybe she could take a 1st year, no one would miss those little twits. There were too many of them, but they were all in bed weren't they? She calmed herself down and just focused her attention onto Raiden or whoever caught her attention. Get her mind off of things. Well blood, but who needed to know she needed to keep her mind off of blood? To come to such a conclusion in such a short period of knowing him was not anything that Raiden had ever before experienced. He still had friends that didn’t know exactly who or what he liked and disliked. There was not a person in the world that knew him, except perhaps his sister and that was only because he allowed her to see the sides of him that remained hidden to most, he allowed her to see him. How was it then that this girl without the conversation ever having even gone in the direction of blood purity and what not had come to the conclusion that he didn’t favour muggles? How was it that she was able to surmise that he was not Gryffindor or Hufflepuff and everything else that she had come to the correct conclusion of? This was more than a little unnerving, even if Raiden didn’t show a hint of any feeling of anxiousness or feeling that tad bit uneasy.
Did he know her? Had his mind somehow misplaced the memory of their encounter or perhaps even encounters? No, that could not be possible. How could that be the case when she had introduced herself to him like they had only just met? But if they had only just met then why was it that she was able to come to conclusions about him that happened to be so accurate? This was now how things often went on first encounters with Raiden. This was as far from his normal as he liked things to be. Rowan was turning into an enigma and he didn’t enjoy enigmas that he didn’t produce. However he was not going to just stand by idly. He would find out how it was that she was able to deduce those things and if it was necessary then she would pay for making him the fool.
Then he caught site of the blood on her finger after she had run it across the edges of her teeth, in enquiry to why he had stared at her. She had attempted to hide it, but hardly anything went unnoticed to his keen eye and since his mission was now to find out the truth about the young lady before him it meant that his body and mind where fixed on her and nothing would go unnoticed, of that he was sure. Then it came to him in a flurry. Pictures of stories he had read from the family’s extensive library, the trips to the restricted section. It was highly uncommon and perhaps unlikely, but for the moment it seemed the puzzle pieces started making sense and this could be the reason for his unease. But if so then how was he to approach.
Mind still unmade Raiden pulled out his wand from the inside pocket of his dress robes and pointed it at the finger he thought to be wounded. “I can assist if there is need to?” There were more in his words then just the simple gesture of healing a wounded girl. Raiden was officially out to play.

“I can assist if there is need to?” Rowan shook her head. She was getting sloppy here. Truly sloppy if he had seen the blood on her finger that was closing up before his very eyes. She was as good as dead now if he knew what she was just by seeing her movements. She could see his confusion and process of thinking, but she couldn't detect thoughts. It was something she stopped herself from doing. She didn't want to know what he was thinking. The look on his face already told her enough. He was curious and she had to back down. She was usually one to just go in and go for it, but she couldn't let anyone know what she truly was. Not now.
"Oh, look it stopped bleeding. I truly don't think you need your wand out now. People might think you're truly up to something."
She was trying to play him, fool that something was going on. To make it look like so, she stared in the general direction behind him to just stare at anybody to make him think someone was looking in their general direction. Of course no one would think anything between a slytherin and a ravenclaw. They didn't hate each other like gryffindor hated slytherin and vise verse. Though she had to be careful. It was only a matter of time before she slipped up and he caught onto what she was, though she figured he already knew considering who he was with a family who had money. Anyone could have a vast knowledge of things with a family of money. Rowan would never understand that. She lived in a two story flat in Cardiff with four bedrooms. She had never been in a mansion or some fancy home to anyone. Nor was she ever invited to one. It was something that didn't bother her much, but she didn't let anyone on that she wasn't rich as some of the other people around. Rowan tasted the air, just to see what was around her. To know her surroundings at every given moment. She listened to everyone's conversations bit by bit. Blood.... Someone had cut themselves with a glass they dropped. Gushing out of the small finger wound, Rowan's irises went from a light blue to a deep blue color with a shade of black mixed in. Dazing off was something normal to her when she found the scent of blood intriguing. She couldn't help herself. She probably looked a little interesting to Raiden, but it didn't seem to catch on to her that he might see her like this and she was trying to locate the scent of the sweet nectar. Her hand balled up into a fist as her nails cut into her palm as she took precaution to calm herself down before something deadly happened, but she was still in that trance state trying to pinpoint the source, her hand starting to bleed from her nails. This truly was going to become disastrous. Rowan was correct, the bleeding had stopped. In fact before she had pulled her finger away from her mouth he could have sworn he had seen it heeling by itself, but that could easily have been his mind playing tricks on him and he couldn’t be sure without a proper glance at it and since she had removed it from his line of vision there was no way to be sure for the moment. His eyebrow rose slightly at her comment about his wand being out and someone thinking that perhaps he might be up to something. Certainly anyone from the Potter and Weasley family would think that true and perhaps his ex-friend Scorpius, if he wasn’t able to read the situation correctly, but there was no way that the rest of the faculty considered that to be true. To the school faculty he was like the Slytherin golden boy; perfect grades, perfect manners and always willing to assist if a professor happened to be in need. However she would let Rowan believe she had made a good point. Nodding he returned his wand to the inside pocket of his dress robes.
“You really seem to be looking out for me tonight,” he continued, “I wonder what it was that I did to deserve such care from such a beautiful young lady.” Without waiting for a reply he looked in the direction that Rowan had started to stare in. It was deadly obvious that she was trying to avoid the whole situation that had just occurred and divert his attention to something else. Even though he knew it was an attempt to distract him, Raiden found his attention once again being caught by the sight of Albus Potter and the girl that seemed to have him the so called ‘Boy Wonder’ so entranced. Now he had a better view of the couple Raiden thought that the girl looked a little familiar. He was good with faces and he was certain that he knew her from somewhere, but at the same time she looked so different. Then once again he remembered rowan beside him and turned to face the beautiful pale blonde next to her only to find her staring off into the distance almost as if she was in some sort of a trance herself.
Whoever had caught her attention had made a real impact. Even after clearing his throat a few times she still didn’t default from her gaze to look at him. If he wasn’t so in love with himself he was certain that the thing he knew the other students of the school refer to as feelings would have been hurt, but it was impossible for anyone to damage Raiden Nott’s self esteem. Instead he merely gazed at Rowan as she stood beside him in her trance like state. He took the opportunity to look her over once more without her knowing so that she couldn’t think that perhaps she was more special than what she was, which at this point was a hopeful snog for the evening. Then he noticed that blood seemed to be starting at the point that her nails seemed to be digging into her hand. If he was correct in his assumption of what she was she might prove useful to him, but he didn’t need others finding out about her. With a swift motion he stretched out his arm, grabbed Rowan and pulled her toward him pressing his lips to hers as her face came inches close to his.

I HEAR VOICES OVER MY SHOULDER, NOTHING'S MAKING SENSE AT ALL. WONDER, WHY DO WE RACE? WHEN EVERYDAY WE'RE RUNNIN' IN CIRCLES, SUCH A FUNNY WAY TO FALL. TRIED TO OPEN MY EYES, I'M HOPIN' FOR A CHANCE TO MAKE IT ALRIGHT. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
“You really seem to be looking out for me tonight, I wonder what it was that I did to deserve such care from such a beautiful young lady.”
Rowan truly hadn't been paying attention to him when he spoke. All she heard was words, and a voice, but not something coming from him. Sure she heard the words, but it didn't sound like his voice. Not at all. Though she was pulled away from her trance, when she was pulled into a hug coming toward Raiden. She pulled away quickly, faster than anyone around them could see. Horror struck her face when she noticed the bloody hand prints she left on his jacket. "Raiden. I'm sorry... I didn't mean to..." She was quickly trying to avoid making a scene. Luckily no one saw a thing, especially her hands. The marks on her hands from her nails soon closed and disappeared, the blood with it as she stood in front of Raiden to hide it from view. She figured it out, that he knew. It didn't take a genius to figure out what she was, but he couldn't say she was a full vampire, because she wasn't. She wasn't a monster. She could act completely normal and no one would know, minus the countless nights that had been wasted spending it in the Forbidden Forest feasting on blood. He wasn't going to tell anyone, now was he? That was her only concern. To have her secret told to those who could use it against her. It was already bad enough that he found out about it. She looked up at him after she made sure her hands were back to normal. "Tell a soul about what just happened, and I'll make you're life a living hell, Raiden. I can do that. I'm sure there are more dangerous things out there than me. I'm not as deadly as the others. I'm nothing compared to them. Now you can stay here or you can along. I can't stand to be sitting here mingling around with these idiots on nothing. I hope you're not scared of the Forbidden Forest." She smiled as she started to walk away from him, backwards toward the door. She wondered if he was going to follow her. Truly if he was that interested in her, he would. Most of the people she knew did that unless they were scared, but she couldn't wait any longer. Things would get out of hand before long. She just hoped he was ready for the cold night in the forest, because she would hardly feel a thing. It wouldn't bother her to the point that she couldn't feel if her skin was cold enough to turn blue to match her dress. "Are you coming, Raiden?" [/blockquote][/blockquote] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - finished!
