Things were getting bad, right? Like, things were getting really bad, out in the wide world, where stuff mattered and people got hurt and all that? There was bad news?
Because Teddy hadn't felt more ecstatic in his life.
He knew the Order was starting to panic. Between mysterious barrier breeches and the eerie calm on the side of the Death Eaters, there was reason to start to worry. The Order had to be on their guard, and every member had to be up to speed; the latest information, spells, techniques, everything. In fact, this meeting was super important. So important, so important, for GODRIC'S SAKE, THEODORE, PAY ATTENTION.
Teddy blinked when Victoire tugged his hand. He hadn't realized he'd been smiling, a bit dazed, as they walked down the street that would lead them to Grimmauld place. Moments before, they had dropped Olivia off with Teddy's Gran for the afternoon while they would be at the Order meeting, which he really needed to pay attention to. And was finding it extremely hard to do so when Vic kept looking back at him and tugging his hand, because he could feel the ring on her finger.
A new ring. An engagement ring.
It had taken Teddy three years to get over himself and ask her, but he had. He'd asked her a few weeks ago, and she had said yes, and now everything was perfect. Teddy couldn't think about Muggle security or Regulus Lestrange, because Vic was going to be his wife. Nothing else mattered anymore. Not when everything was suddenly going so right.
Teddy smiled at her apologetically, smirking a little so that he didn't look as completely lost in thought as he actually was. He jogged a couple paces to keep up with her, and quickly they fell into step, lacing their fingers together. The air was bitingly cold but Teddy didn't feel it. The wind howled and snow began to fall in tiny flakes that stuck to their eyelashes and hair and coat collars, but Teddy could only feel Victoire's hand in his, the way she pressed up against him to ward off the cold. Everything was Victoire, Victoire, Victoire...
They arrived at Number 12, Grimmauld place, and waited for the apartment to reveal itself before stepping inside. The atmosphere was tense and quiet, and even the squeaking of the floor boards seemed inappropriately loud. Perhaps it was this, more than anything, that alerted Teddy to his surroundings, and he sobered up a little after that.
Dipping his head down, Teddy murmured to Vic. "D'you think now's even a good time to say anything?" He was referring, of course, to their engagement, and as he said it, he played a little with the ring on her finger. They had been planning to tell everyone over the holidays, but things had gotten too hectic. Now was the best time, they thought, as they figured they'd better tell before it got too late, and people might start holding grudges. But Louis and Fred and Albus and all the rest of the cousins were already back in school, so the timing wasn't completely perfect. Still, better than nothing.
So maybe it was weird timing, he'd be the first to admit. It was an important meeting after all, but this was important to them, too. Besides? Who didn't need a little cheering up now and then? These were dark times. Vic and Ted had a little light to share.
