a small girl stood outside of the owlery, peering at the building as she clutched a letter to her chest. it was a saturday, and she was donning her lounge-wear. her sweatpants bagged around her feet, where she wore used and dirtied flip-flops. she wore a tank top that rose just slightly above her pant line, not enough to be slutty, but enough to look casual. she bore a hoodie over her tank top, a pink one that was loose and unzipped. her blonde hair was tied in a rather untidy knot-like bun and she wore no makeup, blinking worriedly at the owlery.
lucy dithered outisde of the building, her blue eyes wide as she stared at the small shack that held so many owls. her knuckles turned white as she clutched at the letter she was to send to her parents, and she froze as an owl flew out, watched it fly in the opposite direction, and letting out a sigh of relief it was not coming toward her. having a fear of owls in the wizarding world was uncommon, though molly had a reason. really, she did. she didn't like thinking about it though, and as she bit her lower lip, she attempted to push her fear away. it was just owls- ones around wizards a ton. she could handle it, right?
taking a step forward, she let out a shriek as another owl flew out, this time toward her. she ducked, dropping to the ground and clutching at her head, squeezing her eyes shut as she listened to the fading sound of wings as the owl flew away. once she could hear it no more, she lifted her head cautiously and opened her eyes. she was still a step closer to the owlery, but she felt no braver than before. it was still full of owls and ... scary. her heart dropped and she slowly got to her feet, wincing as she heard an owl fluttering about inside. her cheeks burned red- had anyone saw? she peered around. no one in sight ... but still, she was embarrassed. it was just owls!

Saturday. What a lovely day it was. Gabriel rolled over in his bed, letting his eyes wander to the curtains. The skies were overcast, the clouds puttering across the sky, allowing the sun a quick blink only occasionally. In his mind he had not yet registered the fact that it was December. The Christmas holidays were fast approaching. He allowed himself to smile at the thought of visiting his little nephew, Liam.
With great reluctance, Gabriel finally rolled form his bed, letting out a loud yawn. To his left a right beds were unkempt and messy, some empty, others still filled with his roommates. He slipped from his four-posted bed and landed on the ground quitely.
He was careful to open his dresser, the drawers stiff, giving a great creak as he yanked them open. he pulled out a green hoodie, a white t-shirt, and a pair of well-worn jeans that he'd had for so long that even though he knew he needed another pair, he was almost nostalgic when he picked them up that he was very reluctant to throw them away. Gabriel then pulled out a pair of socks. The only matching and folded pair he had were a pair of little robot socks that he'd had when he was eight. He never intended on actually wearing them, but his mother had sent them to him when he'd complained about having holey socks. He sat on the edge of his bed and pulled the socks onto fit feet with great trouble, since his feet were probably twice the size of his socks.
Gabriel let out a sigh, and looked around himself. Where were his gray runners? He got down onto his hands and knees and looked underneath his bed. They were there. He popped back up, still on hands and knees and looked around the room. He didn't want to wake any of the others, so he slid his hand underneath his dark bed and pulled out a pair of black addidas sandles that he usually wore on summer days; He usually also wore them with bare feet.
The common room was full with the usuals -- the second year boys who liked to mostly talk about Quidditch; the fifth year girls who glared at him as he passed the common room floor. Their gazes were harsh; he let his eyes wander to the ground. The dedicated seventh years who were bent over books in small study groups, already in preparation for their N.E.W.T.s. He smiled at a couple of people whom he knew and was relatively good friends with, but didn't stop to talk. Until he was finished sending this letter to his parents and to his sister and her husband.
He stepped out into the crisp morning, the grass covered in a thick coat of frost. It crunched beneath his feet as he walked across the sloping lawns to the owlery. The owlery was a fascinating place, though not one of his favourites. He didn't very much enjoy stepping across a straw-and-droppings covered floor, tiny skeletons crunching beneath his feet. He also disliked the shrill screeches that made his ears ring for an hour or so after. Gabriel was also never a fan of the bites and scratches from the birds, none in particular like the violence his owl, Hoot, usually displayed.
No matter the amount of affection Gabriel gave his owl, it always seemed to attack him before leaving. But whatever the case, Gabriel started towards the west tower, his breath foggy before him. He wondered how long it would be before the snow covered the ground like a great white blanket. He shurgged his shoulders up to keep himself warmer and shoved his hands deep into his pockets.
Nearing the great owlery tower Gabriel saw the unmistakeable figures of owls swooping in and out of the tower, obviously in search of food, or just coming back from a hunt. But as he came closer to the tower, Gabriel saw the figure of a petite blonde girl. He saw her hesitating at the door. He didn't blame her -- the place wreaked, it was loud, and the owls were a bit intimidating with their curved, sharp beaks, and their huge, wise eyes.
Gabriel started up the steps two at a time, stopping just a little ways form the girl. He recognized the fairy-like body and features to belong to a clever Ravenclaw sixth year girl who he had in a couple of his classes. The name slipped his mind at this moment, but he recognized her to be the girl that most referred to as "Elfie".
"Um, hey," Gabriel said, giving a half-smile, awkwardly standing behind her. His eyes drifted from her face to the ground ... His socks! Gabriel somehow wished he could hide them, but he was sure she'd noticed them already. He hoped she didn't think him odd but all he managed to get out was a nervous chuckle. TAG! Lucy! WORDS! 846 NOTES! Bah, I don't know why it's this long! I doubt that they'll be this long in the future! OUTFIT! silly socks[/blockquote]

a voice sounded behind lucy, and the girl stiffened. she looked over her shoulder first, a breeze choosing that moment to blow a stray lock of her blonde hair into her face. accidentally inhaling some, she choked out a cough and was quick to sort that out, before fully turning around. she tilted her head to the side, scratching her neck as she narrowed her eyes slightly. the boy who was in front of her now, the one she assumed had said hello, was standing tall- even for a normal person. for poor lucy, he was simply towering above her. she looked up, her eyes widening a little. she let her hand drop back to her letter, and she drummed her fingers on the envelope, racking her brains to see if she could remember who this guy was.
that is if she knew him at all ... oh yes! he was from one of her classes. that's right- a hufflepuff. she hadn't heard much about him, she just knew his name was gabriel. at the remembrance and recognition, lucy twitched her lip upward to a half-smile. it wasn't that she was unfriendly, she just wasn't, well, super friendly. but still, he said hi first so it was nice to reply. she opened her mouth to say something back, when she remembered her shriek and ducking. oh god, did he see that? her fear of owls was not particularly well known, and she planned on keeping it that way. after all, what witch was afraid of owls? swallowing the moment of doubt, lucy breathed in and tried again. "hey- gabriel from charms class right?" she began, her voice sharp and kind of high pitched, matching her impish yet super tiny looks.

Gabriel lifted his head, looking around. An owl circled the tower once, high up in the sky, before descending gracefully, its wings outspread. He noticed the letter that was coiled up tightly and tied to its foot. At that moment, he acknowledged the soft cough, the loud squawk from his owl, Hoot, and the fact that the weather was taking a turn – yet, he wasn’t sure if it was for the better, or for the worse.
Gabriel felt himself gawking at her. She really was pretty, but … well, he didn’t actually know. There were a lot of pretty girls out there who he’d never have a chance with. After all, her was the Irish giant – definitely a sort thumb in his town, and just as much of one here. He was a country boy, fascinated by the lives that all these people led. Being able to live with families who were all magic. Living around people, and being with friends who accepted magic. And as much as he would like the idea of that, he’d need to start his own family first – and he doubted his father wanted him to have anything to do with some witch. He probably wanted him to marry that girl down the road who hadn’t lost all her baby teeth.
Gabriel gave a weak smile, his voice cracking slightly as he spoke. “Yeah—,” he broke off, clearing his throat and looking at the ground, “yeah. Gabriel from charms.” He still couldn’t remember her name …. Lilia? Lilith? Lara? Laurel? He knew it started with the letter “L”, but he just couldn’t remember, well, the rest of it! He swallowed a bit, already embarrassing himself a bit. He could feel his cheeks flushing, and his ears getting hot.
Gabriel would trade his height any day for the ability to talk to girls. Girls liked boys who were confident, good looking, and could actually talk. At this point, he had none of those. He almost wanted to sigh and smack his face. He didn’t actually know what he was doing. He motioned to the letters in his hand, lifting them up, then nodding at hers. “I’ve got some letters to send to my parents and my sister. You’re sending something too? Or are you coming back?” He questioned, taking another step closer to her, where he squeezed by. He felt the first raindrop on the top of his head.
It was cold, very cold. It was almost like ice, liquid ice, if that made any sense. Too bad the weather weren’t any colder, or it would’ve turned to snow – and he doubted he would mind. He’d always liked a bit of a white Christmas. “Shall we?” Gabe gestured to the Owlery tower, only a few steps away now. It was getting very loud – almost so that he had to strain to raise his voice above the noise. “It looks like it might start to rain.”
A few drops on the ground around their feet. If the temperatures dropped into freezing after this, these steps to the Owlery would be treacherous, a hazard to any student who decided they were brave enough to scale these stairs. Gabriel took a look down at the petite girl in front of him. He hadn’t noticed before, but he realized it now – her voice had never been so high-pitched before. They way she’d spoken before sounded almost fitting for her appearance. Should he offer to carry the letter in for her? TAG! Lucy! WORDS! 581 NOTES! *gapes at post* whoa ... this is most definitely longer than usual! O.o OUTFIT! silly socks[/blockquote]

lucy was somewhat fascinated by this boy. the ones she had spoken to before were either too prissy to be straight, or so overconfident it was annoying. he was neither. blinking and continuing to drum her fingers on the letter, lucy couldn't decide if she liked that or not. when he spoke, she nodded and felt a little rush of triumph inside. she was right, he was gabriel from charms. rubbing the tip of her nose, the tiny blonde opened her mouth to reply, and shut it when he continued speaking. oh .. yeah the letter. lucy's gaze dropped to it, and shifted over to throw the owlery a reproachful glance. "i was just ... " she trailed off, turning back to face gabriel. "well, i was trying to send a letter." she replied, somewhat muttering in a grudging voice. she was terrified of owls, but she wouldn't let that on yet. and then a raindrop fell. first on gabriel's head, next by lucy's foot. she looked down, raising her eyebrows and pressing her lips together before looking up.
go in? her eyes widened in a small sort of panic, but she pushed it back. oh god, she was to go inside? she nibbled on her lower lip, wincing as a raindrop fell too close to her eye. she supposed she had to, but stubborn as she was, she would have preferred to stay out in the rain, if she had been alone. still, she was not going to admit her fear of owls, not yet anyway. she nodded and set her jaw in determination. "yeah, let's go." she said, though she stood still, not really making a move for the door. not really moving at all. but she sighed inwardly. okay, she had to go. it seemed like eternity to her, but lucy turned around and stepped forward. another step. she was in the owlery. luckily her entrance was quiet and didn't disturb any owls, but she stiffened anyway, her blue eyes wide as she stood tensely in the middle of the room.
