"...Eight. Nine. Ten! Ready or not, here I come!"
Peeking open his eyes, Teddy dropped his hands and looked around, grinning. Now, where was she? Standing up from the couch, he moved over to the curtains, whisking them aside with a fluorish. Nothing. Pursing his lips he moved on, peering under tables, into cupboards. Bloody hell, where had they gone in ten seconds?
Bugger, how were you supposed to signal that you gave up? He couldn't remember. Half sighing, Ted snuck into his and Vic's room and blinked, eyes shifting to orange in his confusion. Vic was standing right there, leaning over the bed. Sneaking up, he peeked his eyes over her shoulder and felt his face soften; Liv was fast asleep, curled under the covers.
"She fell asleep that fast?" he whispered, slipping his arms around Vic's waist. She jumped ever so slightly, and turned her head to smile at him. A kiss on the cheek and his eyes easily shifted over to blue again.
"She crawled up and was out," Vic murmured, turning in his arms to hook her arms around his neck. She gave him a soft kiss with another smile. "It's no wonder, dad, you've kept her up till nine playing hide-and-seek."
"Didn't see you rushing her off to bed," Teddy teased, giving her another kiss. Pulling away he moved to his daughter and slide her into his arms, moving to her room with Vic behind him. Together they silently got her changed for bed and tucked her in, not waking her at all. Ted leaned down to kiss her forehead; Vic kissed her cheek, and they moved out into the hall and shut the door softly.
"Now come here, my Victoire," he whispered with a grin and a horrible French accent, wrapping his arm around her waist again and backing them into their room. Vic giggled as he sat on the bed and pulled her to stand between his legs.
"Dear, I'm tired," she teased, pushing gently at his chest. Ted grinned wider, tightening his hold on her and burying his face into her neck. Vic laughed again, leaning into him.
"No, you're not," Ted stage whispered, planing a kiss on the hollow of her throat. Vic sucked in a sharp breath. "But you will be."

They’re sitting on the couch, each lounging against an arm. He’s only eight, but he tries to look older, all confidence, even with his bright green hair that he was embarrassed about earlier. She keeps looking at him in awe, maybe because of his hair, or maybe because he is three years older and therefore amazing.
“Why can you do things that I can’t?”
“Because I’m older. Just how the world works.”
“Oh.” A pause. “Which one of us will fall in love first?”
“Probably me, Victoire.”
“Oh.” Another pause. “Why?”
“Because I’m older. So I’ll have more time to.”
“…Will you fall in love with me?”
“Merlin! Does it matter, Vic? Love is gross.”
“It is?”
“Of course it is.”
“…How do you know so much?”
“Because I’m older, Vic. Someday, you’ll understand.”
“When?”
“When you’re older.”
---
“…Teddy?”
Vic rolls over in the grass, propping her head up in one hand, staring intently at the blue haired boy beside her. He doesn’t look at her, but instead keeps staring up at the sky, arms crossed behind his head, amber eyes taking in all of the stars in wonder.
“Teddy.”
“Wha’?” He finally looks away, looks to Vic, and smiles a bit, as if just now remembering she’s there. “Yeah?”
“Will you miss me? When you go off to Hogwarts?”
Teddy looks at Victoire for a few moments, noticing that she looks generally concerned. He smiles at her, trying to make her feel better, but when it doesn’t change the look on her face, he rolls onto his side and mimics her position. “Of course I’ll miss you, Vic.”
“You’ll be busy, learning magic and making new friends. Getting sorted…”
“Yeah. I s’pose.” He falls silent for a moment, looking away from her, then looks back at her and sighs. “Just don’t worry, okay? I mean, in three years, you’ll be going too…”
“…Yeah. Guess you’re right.”
“Of course I am.”
That gets a smile out of her.
---
They cross paths in the halls. He gives her a nod, she gives him a smile. At family gatherings they joke and laugh a bit together, say hi, act friendly. Sometimes she is the funniest girl he knows, and other times she seems like just a child. On some days, Vic thinks he’s the child, annoying and so…Gryffindor.
One day, they are both feeling particularly friendly. Teddy is taking a break from studying for N.E.W.T.’s, and Vic is taking a break of just studying in general. They both get up from their tables in the library at the same time and notice each other.
“Hey, Victoire,” he greets with a wide grin. She looks at him, with shocking purple hair today, and smiles in amusement.
“Hello, Teddy.” He packs up his things, swings his bag on his shoulder, and walks over to her. In the next moment, he’s stuffing her things into her bag and then offering his arm.
“Too much studying will rot your brain, you know.” Looking at his arm, Vic grabs up her bag and laughs lightly, looping her arm through his.
“Well look at you, saving me from all the books. The Gryffindor chivalry is finally peeking through.”
He laughs, rolling his eyes as if she is ridiculous, before begging to lead her out of the library. “Now, now, Vic. You know it’s always been there.”
---
They’re not sure when it changed. It might have been the day he saw that picture of Vic and the bloke with sandy hair, snogging. It might have been the day she overheard him talking to George about the girl he had hooked up with the night before. Maybe it was the one afternoon, when the family got together for lunch at the Burrow during the summer, when Teddy happened to be dressed in that white shirt and Victoire happened to be dressed in that white dress, and they matched a little and couldn’t stop laughing about it. It was probably the day that they realized they had grown apart during Hogwarts, and started to grow together again. It might have been the day they became each other’s best of friend.
No matter what day it was, it led to the one day he and her were talking, lying in the grass, and he leaned over and kissed her. It led to him thinking she was so beautiful, and her thinking she’d never met anyone quite as handsome and funny as him. It led to sneaking out to meet each other in the summer, to late nights talking and snogging and falling in love.
They’re not sure when it changed. But hell, they don’t really care.
---
His hand is in her hair, lips covering hers soundly, their bodies snug against a pillar, mostly hidden from view. None of the other people on the platform are paying them any mind as they snog away, blissfully lost in their own little world. That is, of course, until the voice of their cousin interrupts them.
“Teddy? Victoire? What are you guys doing?”
Sighing, Teddy detaches himself from Vic, who blushes but lets out a giggle, smoothing down her blonde locks. They both turn to look at James, who was ogling them as if he were just now realizing that they were capable of snogging people. Let alone each other.
“I’m seeing Victoire off, James.” Teddy sounds completely exasperated, and Vic laughs again, hiding it behind her hand as Teddy’s eyes spark red a few times to show his annoyance. “Now, don’t you have a train to catch?”
They both watch James move away, glance over his shoulder a few times. Finally he’s out of sight, and Teddy wraps his arms around Victoire once more, giving her a small kiss. “He’s going to tell everyone. You know that, right?”
“Of course I do.” She gives his nose a small kiss and grins at him teasingly. “Not nervous about the family knowing, are you, Lupin?”
“Of course not!”
The huff he lets out sets her giggling again as the train gives a long whistle.
---
“Come on Vic, you’re doing great!” Teddy’s voice is a constant in her ear, nervous yet excited, as he urges her on, clutching her hand. She lets out a pained scream, and can think of about ninety things she’d like to tell him right now, but doesn’t have the chance. In the next moment, there is another cry piercing the room, and the Healers are beaming at her.
“A girl! Congratulations! She’s very healthy, this one.” Vic lets out a noise of relief and happiness, her hand loosening in Teddy’s. He keeps holding on tight, though, eyes on his daughter. Then, he looks to Victoire, who’s sweaty and spent and the most beautiful girl in the world.
It doesn’t matter that they’re not married. It doesn’t matter that they’re young. It doesn’t matter that her parents don’t approve, that the family isn’t really thrilled. None of it matters, because Victoire and Teddy are happy, and they are parents. None of it matters, as the Healers hand over their daughter (their daughter!) and they both hug her and hold her and whisper to her.
It doesn’t matter as Vic whispers, “Olivia,” and Teddy strokes his daughter’s face with a single finger. It doesn’t matter, because they’re in love and they love they’re daughter. That’s all that matters.
---
The ceremony isn’t as long as he worried. The suit isn’t as tight as he feared. Even if both the worry and fear had come true, it wouldn’t have mattered. The way Victoire looked in that beautiful white dress more than made up for it.
Blinking, Teddy is brought back from his mind as the little wizard addresses him. Smiling fondly, he takes the ring and slips it onto Vic’s finger, knowing what his line is. “I do.”
She’s not paying attention to the wizard either. Teddy is looking handsome, with his trademark blue hair, and his smile is melting her to the core, and the ring feels right on her finger. She knows when it’s her turn, though, and slips on the ring for Teddy herself. “I do.”
More talking. Family members crying. He smiles at her, she beams at him. They’re lost in each other’s eyes, waiting for those words. Those final words.
“You may now kiss the bride.”
There they were! Teddy doesn’t hesitate, doesn’t give a damn, doesn’t think about it at all as he leans in and kisses Victoire, with just the right amount of passion that he won’t get scolded about it later from some daft relative. They’re his relatives now too, he realizes. They kiss, and they move close together, and they smile with lips talking better than words could, and cannot even hear the wizards as he announces, “I am proud to introduce Mr. and Mrs. Lupin!”
They tug apart, beam at the crowd, give a fond smile to their daughter. Married. A family. At the same moment, they think back to that time long ago, when they were young and talking about love and ages and everything in between. They think of Hogwarts and the birth of their daughter. They think of everything, all at that moment, before turning to each other and knowing that this is one of the greatest moments yet.
“Teddy…”
“Yeah?”
“I love you.”
“I love you too, Vic.”
