Usually at the Potter house, whenever the kids were home, it depended on the parent whether or not they would get a lie in. If it was up to their dad, they could sleep in, but if their mum had any say in it they would be up at around seven in the morning, with a list of chore's that they needed to do. Of course, this didn't happen every day, but on the days that it did, Al was not a very happy person. He liked to sleep in, because he most certainly wasn't a morning person--unless it was for Quidditch.
However, for some unexplained reason, Al was down in the common room at six thirty in the morning, completely awake and bored out of his mind. He didn't understand what had him awake, either--he wasn't nervous about classes, or excited, or at least not enough of either to want to be up before seven thirty. So to pass time, he was lying on one of the couches by the fire, his legs hanging over the back of the couch and his head dangling above the floor. He sighed in frustration.
"Rooooooorryyy," he groaned to the empty common room--keeping his voice down so that he wouldn't wake anybody else. "Please. I beg of you. If you can telepathically hear your friend, come and save him. It's early and he's bored."
Al waited in silence for a moment, his black hair falling off of his face slowly. All he could see was the fire (upside down) and a few chairs (also upside down). With another sigh he planted his hands on the ground and used momentum of his legs to get his body off of the couch. Which meant that he had too much momentum, which meant that he was now lying stomach down on the floor, his face in the carpet, and in pain.
"Ow," he mumbled, too lazy to actually lift his head. Great, now he was bored, awake too early, and in pain--all before seven in the morning!

Rory had dawned her robes for classes and was now running a brush impatiently through her thick red hair. She'd rather not have fussed with it at all but she had no intentions of returning to the dorms to to comb it or change before classes. She wanted every free minute she could get out on the pitch before the first lesson of the day. Depending of the weather she might even skip breakfast to get more time on the field in. She had some licorice wands she could shove in her pocket, they'ed do for something to eat. Grabbing the candy and her broom from beside her bed she headed towards the door.
Thumping down the stairs from the girls dorms to the common room she paid little heed to the fact that she might wake someone up who'd just as soon be asleep. On reaching the bottom of the steps the sight that met her gaze gaze caused a brow to quirk and a smirk to form which was fallowed by a laugh.
" You know there 'are' chairs and stuff for us to sit on in here, ...and besides.."
She screwed her face up in a rather disgusted look..
" I'm pretty sure I saw one of the first years tom cats was sitting over there last night, his butt would have been..oh... right about where your nose and mouth are at? "
Smirking she sat down in a chair and leaning her broom to the side she tugged her leg up so she could tie her shoe.
" What are you doing up at this hour anyway Al? Fire in the boys dorm or something? "
After thinking for a moment that for Al to be up before seven this could entirely be the case she froze and looked up quickly, her expression a bit freaked out..
" I swear..I had nothing to do with it! "

It would have been a safe bet that Al would never have moved had not he heard a loud thumping coming from one of the two sets of stairs. He could take a guess and say it was probably the girls, but he couldn't be positive. That was, he couldn't be positive until he heard a very familiar laugh. and a smile lit his features. Rory! He was about to lift his head when she began to speak, and he paused to listen.
At the mention of the tom cat, Al snapped his head up, making a now disgusted face as he looked at his best friend, pushing himself up off of the floor and brushing himeslf off. "What are you doing up at this hour anyway Al? Fire in the boys dorm or something?...I swear, I had nothing to do with it!" The Gryffindor boy began to laugh at the look on his friend's face, shaking his head at her as he moved around the couch and perched himself on the back of it.
"No, there wasn't a fire...and don't get any ideas either!" he said, pointing a finger at her with one hand as his other ran through his hair in a habitual manner. Shaking his head again, he chuckled, pushing his hair back down flat with the same hand that had messed it up. "I just...was awake. Dunno why." He shrugged, and then took in what Rory was doing and the broom resting by her.
"You wouldn't be going to get in some practice and be skipping breakfast, would you?" he asked her, lifting one eyebrow as he smirked. "C'mon, it's six thirty in the morning! On the first day of school. Don't you ever rest?" He, of course, knew the answer to that question. Rory was always playing the game, and Al found it admirable to have so much dedication. Although sometimes it did get a bit ridiculous.

Frowning in mock hurt innocence she looked from his finger to his face..
" No.. not me.."
Unable to keep up the facade she smirked and then busted into a wide grin. Finishing up with tieing her shoe she stood up and grabbed hold of her boom again. Casting Al a defensive look she dug into her pocket and pulled out the fist full of licorice wands.
" I've got breakfast covered.. see? "
Shoving one in her mouth she talked as she chewed without a second thought about it.
" Its like pancakes right? Got the same ingredients..sugar..and.... well,.. its got sugar! "
She beamed at him as if that ingredient made all the difference and then held the fist full out to him.
" Want one? "
She shrugged at his comment about going out to practice so early.
" Quidditch 'is' restful to me.. and besides, not everybody likes to sleep their existence away given the chance. "
She grinned meaningfully at Al and then moved towards the door before pausing. Turnning around she questioned Albus.
" Since you up with nothing to do why don't you come and practice some? can't hurt.. "
She beamed with mischief..
" Of course if you not up for it you can always wait around here, I'm sure the first years will be up before long. They'll be thrilled and excited about their first year, and ..talkative...
She put heavy en-faces on the last word, while she'd be the first to want to slug someone who actually got Al to worked up over comparing him to his dad and drilling him about his family, she wasn't above using this known annoyance as a fear tactic to get him out on the pitch for awhile. After all as a chaser he needed to practice as much as possible to if the team was going to woop tail this year.

After smoothing down his hair as much as he could, Al crossed his arms over his chest, which was covered in a white school shirt. He watched with a still amused look on his face as Rory pulled out some licorice wands, and proceeded to eat one and talk while eating it. By now he was used to her doing things like this, but anybody else probably would have found it not...very appealing. He shook his head at her as she tried to make a licorice wand seem like the same thing as a pancake, but didn't miss the chance to take one when she offered it. Like he would deny a sweet.
He was just shoving it one end into his mouth when she made her comment about sleeping the day away. He scowled at her as best as he could from around the treat. The scowl only grew bigger as she continued on about him practicing with her, and if not he could stay and talk with the little first years. She knew that he hated when anybody brought that up--all the first years would do is bug him about his father and his life and everything that wasn't their business.
"You are such a git!" he said as he crammed the rest of the sweet into his mouth. He glared at her for a moment and then was gone in a flash. He returned in record time with his broom over his right shoulder, and grabbed his robes as he moved back over to his best friend. "I hate you. So much. You know that right?"
Ruining the spite in his voice, he bumped Rory with his shoulder while grinning. His friend may make him practice Quidditch like normal people breath, but she was still his best friend. He reached forward and pushed open the potrait hole, hopping out into the corridor and glancing back over his shoulder to grin again at Rory. His bangs fell into eyes after a moment from where they had been sticking up, and he didn't skip a beat as he ran his hand through it, the robes resting on his arm almost but not falling off.
"Bugger it," he said after a moment, dropping his broom quickly and holding his robes in both hands now. He looked clearly disheveled now, his hair messed up (like always), and now his shirt was all twisted from everything he had been holding. Looking down he could see his shirt pushed up on his stomach on one side, showing parts of his Quidditch toned stomach.
"This isn't my day, Rory," he muttered as he fixed his shirt and then pulled on his robes, leaning down to pick up his broom once more.

Grinning at the scowl on his face she knew she had won. As it deepened and he labeled her a git she simply smirked and shrugged her shoulders as if to say I am who I am. Waiting as he ran to get his broom, she was unfazed by the comment he through at her on returning, I hate you. So much. You know that right? Like that wasn't the first time she'd heard that remark... She smirked and shrugged again, though as he bumped her shoulder and stepped past her to the hole her smirk faltered. A whiff of the most enticing smell assaulted her nose as he moved past. A woody fragrance with a slightly spicy tinge.. that left her feeling slightly hungry, for what she had no clue, but it definitely wasn't food. And her eyes dropped to the ground in confusion. Feeling decidedly uneasy and bizarrely pleased at the same time she grimaced as she looked back up to see Al fighting with his clothes. She almost gagged as her stomach flipped pleasantly at the sight of his stomach. Oh for the bloody sake of Merlin! ...
Moving forward she gave her friend a shove to the side and wiggled past him out of the hole, snapping probably a little to sharply as she passed by...
" Would you quite messing around and come on all ready? .. It'll be time for lessons before we ever make it to the pitch.. "
Stepping out of the portrait and into the hall she made it a point not to turn back and look at him as she headed for the pitch.

As Rory shoved him, Al had still been bending over to retrieve his broom, and promptly toppled over. As he pushed his robes off of his face, he looked up to see his friend pass him by and snap at him. A frown tugged at his face--had he done something wrong? Was something bugging her? She wasn't usually this irritated, and usually she would be walking backwards to smirk at him or grin or make some joke about the whole thing. That was just the way Rory was--unless something was upsetting her.
Grabbing his broom he pushed himself off of the ground and rushed after her, his long strides enabling him to catch up with her by the time she had reached the first staircase. He was still frowning as he ran a hand through his hair again, leaving it messy as he dropped his arm and shoved his hand into his pocket. His right hand still held his broom over his shoulder as he looked down confusedly at the shorter red-headed girl.
"Rore..." he said, using the nickname that he had dubbed her a long time ago. "Did I...do something? Wrong, I mean." He hopped down two steps, skipping over the trick one without even thinking about it. Usually if he was going this fast down the steps he would pay more attention to where he was going, but right now all of his attention was on his best friend. Something was up with her, he could just tell it.
"Because I mean if I did," he continued slowly, "you can tell me. Or yell at me and call me a git. Or hit a bludger at me! If it'll make you feel better." It was times like these when most people loved Al's personality the most. He was unaware that he could be sweet--he was just being Albus Severus, it was just the way he was. The fact that he didn't notice what he was like was something that had sent his mother into amused giggles many a times.

Rory focused on her feet, doing her best to seem as if she simply didn't want to trip going down the steps. Rore... Did I...do something? Wrong, I mean. She cringed inwardly as he asked that, though she managed to keep the expression from her face. Her eyes though, they had to stay busy. she could never tell when the bloody things would sell her out on her current mood, and Al knew the tell - tell color patterns better than her own parents when it came to reading her by them. Forcing the element of a smile into her voice she shrugged..
" Nah, I'm fine Al.. sorry if I pushed you to hard, forget my own strength sometimes..ya know? Didn't mean anything by it. Just want to get in some practice,.. havn't had the chance to fly since before the train ride. "
Cursing herself for the lame excuse she paused for a minute on the steps and closed her eyes, finding a calm focus so that their typical stormy gray would be the only color visible. Looking up after a moment she grinned at him.
" And anyway, you couldn't take on one of 'my' bludgers sent at you... you'd wind up in the hospital wing. "
Well, she'd managed to get her carefree mood in place again, even if her come backs seemed to be coming in pretty lame bursts all of a sudden. Staring into her best friends eyes she fought the creepy urge to look away and instead grinned brightly and jerked her head in the direction of the stairs before them.
" Come on, while we've still got some time to play..alright? "

If there was one thing that the young Gryffindor boy prided himself in, it was the fact that he knew his family and his close friends better than he knew himself. So when Rory gave what was clearly an excuse as to what had just happened, and paused to smile and look at him, he wasn't in the least bit convinced. The first thing he did was check her eye color, which was the same stormy gray that he had always found cool. However, if he didn't know better, he could swear that there was just a tinge of...was that the yellow color that shows nervous? He couldn't tell, it was gone in a flash and then her eyes were just Rory's eyes once more.
He forced himself to smirk at her comment about not being able to take one of her bludgers. While they did hurt like bloody hell, he was confident that he could dodge them. He had quick reflexes and she knew it. As she encouraged him to continue on while they still had time to play, he took his own deep calming breath and relaxed his face into a convincing (or so he hoped) smile. She wanted to cover up what she was really feeling? Fine, he would do the same. And he would get her to tell him what was really wrong.
"Alright then, let's go," he said, continuing to bound down the steps. "But y'know, it's probably not even seven. We've got plenty of time to be together." Had he been thinking, he wouldn't have used those exact choice of words. However, he was so occupied by what was wrong with his friend that it took him a good ten seconds before he hastily fixed the sentence. "Play Quidditch together, I mean."
He chuckled at his own stupidity at choosing the words and shook his head, running his hand through hsi hair again. Had it been any other girl, he would have been embarrassed. But it was just his best friend Rory, so he wasn't worried.

Five years of seeing someone every day at school..during the summer.. Holidays.. pretty much more than she saw her own family, had an effect on your ability to read someone. Just as Al could catch that faint left over spark of yellow in her eyes, she herself could tell that the smile he gave her was just a bit to tight for his personality. She hadn't fooled him not totally anyway, and now he was likely upset with her for holding out on him with her feelings. Well, they'd always been so open with each other.. so she supposed he had a right to be cross at her. Yet he did his best not to let it show, as he bounded down the steps in front of her she had to grin. Al was an awesome best friend.. she'd just have to try harder to fend off the ridiculous feelings she'd been having...But y'know, it's probably not even seven. We've got plenty of time to be together.... she sighed mentally, though comments like that weren't going to make it easy. Deciding the best way to beat down the unwanted feelings was to simply do things as normally as she could. She rolled her eyes at his correction and pulled a mischievous smirk to her face...
"yeah I'm sure we've got time, all the same...race you to the Quidditch Pitch..."
No sooner was the challenge out of her mouth than she was racing down one flight of stairs after another, ducking through shortcuts a few that, while secret to most, Al knew as well as she did, until she finally found herself hurtling out from behind a tapestry, around a corner and into the entrance hall of the castle. Smirking she glanced around to see how far behind Al was if at all.. bad move. Someone had dropped an acid pop on the stone floor and her foot came down right on top of the rounded candy. As the sweet slid from beneath her foot Rory's balance was thrown off and she let out a startled yelp as her ankle twisted while she tried to right herself. In the end she found herself with butt planted on the stone floor and a hiss of pain escaping her lips as she tried to move her ankle to stand.
" Bloody hell.. "
