The first week of school, to Al, meant the last week of summer. After the first week was over, there was never another summer day, all the days blended together into falling leaves, cold winter nights, and spring budding days. Until once again, summer rolled around again. So, after Al's classes were finished on the second day of classes, he decided to go down to the lake and soak his feet in the water for a bit, and try and get in some good warm wheather before it was all gone.
As he sat down by the lake's edge, he shrugged out of his robes and rolled back the sleeves of his white school shirt. He took of his tie and threw it aside, and then took off his shoes and socks and dunked his feet in. Running a hand through his hair, he threw his head back to take in some of the last rays of sun that would be offered that day. Closing his eyes, he sat like this for a good five minutes before he heard the sound of somebody approaching.
Opening his eyes, he squinted and saw his little sister approaching. He smiled slightly, not at all bothered by her presense. Lily wasn't a bad little sister to have--she could be cool sometimes, and she rarely got on Al's nerves. So he sat in content, waiting until she was close enough to him before he called out a friendly, "Hey!"

"Hey!"
Lily nodded softly, noting that she was probably too far away for him to really notice. "Hey, Al," she called back, as soon as she was close enough for her quiet voice to carry itself across to him. She'd been standing near the entrance of the school, pondering whether or not she was going to join him. Li had ditched her shoes where she'd been standing, as well as her cloak. Might as well enjoy the cool air while she could. After a few more seconds she was at Albus' side; shifting so that she was sitting next to him, she dipped her feet in the water. "It's nice out here, isn't it?" she murmured, swishing her feet in the shallow mud. The sun was already beginning to set, her shadow stretching out across the lake. Lily gathered her hair in her hands, bringing it to her left side and combing through it with her fingers.
A fish, or some other animal that was in the water, flicked something and caused a splash about halfway out. Moving her attention to it briefly, she watched each ripple as it faded away into the shadows. "So, have you made any new friends yet, or are you just stuck with James?" Masking the forced tone her voice had taken on with a teasing one, she somewhat wished that she were alone at that moment. Lily loved nature, and if she had the choice then she would sleep outside most days. She wasn't one for conversing.

It only took his little sister a few seconds to reach his side, and when she sat down he smiled at her some more, running his hand through his hair again. He nodded in confirmation to the weather being nice--it really was a great day, and he knew that he had stuff to study for, and home work to do, but right now he just wanted to enjoy the cool water on his feet. It was proving to be really relaxing sitting out here--even Rory might have calmed down a bit.
At her question of making new friends, Al made a face at her before turning his attention the water. He watched the ripples for a moment, wondering what had disturbed the glassy surface of the lake. Shaking his head to dispell these thoughts, he glanced back at Lily and leaned back on his hands comfortably.
"Well, not any new friends," he said. "But I do have friend, Lily-bug. Y'know, Rory, girl who hangs out with us practically every holiday. And my dorm mates, the Quidditch team." He looked at her strangely--that was a bit of an odd question for her to ask, and she seemed in an odd, quiet mood. Well, she was never really boisterously loud, but she wasn't usually this quiet. Frowning a bit now, he tilted his head while watching her.
"It's not like I would make many friends with the first years or anything," he continued, knowing that this was common ground with them. "You know them--all so talkative and eager to be 'friends' with the children of Harry and Ginny Potter. Spending time with them is like getting a lecture from Grandma Weasley, y'know?"

A soft smile flickered over her face. "I'm not 'Lily-bug' anymore, y'know,"
she said, adopting his way of saying 'you know'. "I was just talking about new friends, silly. I know you already have plenty. And honestly, I'd rather be lectured by Grandmother than be friends with them. If they aren't hiding in their little shells then they're practically crawling all over us Potters." Lily let out a soft sigh. "Of course, as soon as we graduate we'll be fine. But I've been stared at in the halls more times than I'd like." Shaking her head in annoyance, she swished her feet a few more times. The mud between her toes felt really nice. Smiling into the sky with satisfaction at her life, Li leaned backward and looked up at the slowly appearing stars. Romantic scene. Too bad I have to spend it with my brother.[ .-. cbox issues atm xD ][/blockquote][/blockquote]

"I hate to break it to you Lils, but you will always be Lily-bug. And Lily-bear, Lily-flower, and Lily Billy. But I won't use them around friends, I swear," Al said, holding up his right hand to his heart with a warm smile. He listened to her own take on being a Potter, and how annoying the first years could be, and found himself nodding slowly in agreement. Yes, she was exactly right--the staring was the thing that always annoyed Albus the most.
"Yeah, you're right," he said quietly, looking back down into the water. He watched the ripples that her feet made with a wry grin, still thinking on their conversation. The first years--some of them really could be nice little kids, who tried not to stare or annoy Al. But then there were the kids who thought they were so cool and could become best pals with the Potter kid, the one who looked the most like Harry Potter himeslf.
"Yeah, Grandma would be my choice too," he said, his voice low. He swished his own feet, leaning down to roll up his pants and then stick his legs further into the water. "So, how has your first two days been Li? Unless of course, it's uncool to talk to your brother about stuff like that. Since there might be a boy involved or something."
He winked in a very dramatic way at her, before he looked back up at the sky, like her. The stars were quiet beautiful, and he found himself wishing that Rory was here to see them with him...or Cissa...but Lily was nice company too.
[[ Ah yes. Their low IQ levels and dim witted response astound me. ]]

Lily rolled her eyes. "Lily-flower's okay. If you use those names around your friends, I'll kill you myself."
Laughing softly, she pulled up her arms and let herself fall backward onto the grass so she didn't have to turn her neck to look at the sky. "Unfortunately, there isn't yet. No guys have caught my attention so far. But, other than that, fine." The blades of grass were cool against her neck, like the water and mud were around her ankles and toes. Closing her eyes for a moment, she unconsciously remembered an old tale that her father had once told her. Splatters of blood, vicious spells flying across the clearing. Cries of pain and loss as many people fell, littering the ground with blood and--Lily shot up, eyes opened wide. Even though somewhere inside her she knew she hadn't, she thought she had fallen asleep. The images had been so vivid! Shuddering as she remembered seeing someone she could only assume was Voldemort killing three innocent people, Lily tried to steady her breathing. That was past. Everything was past.[/blockquote][/blockquote]

It couldn't be denied that Lily had a sense of humor--a dry one, of course, but what Potter didn't? Well...James didn't always have as dry of a sense of humor, but Lily and Al himself most definitely found the same kind of things funny. So at her threat to kill Al, he let out a quiet laugh, still looking up at the sky. Beside him he was aware that Lily had fallen backwards onto the grass, and listened, without looking down, about her not having somebody who had caught her attention yet.
As her older brother, he was pretty glad that there wasn't a boy that he had to worry about. He knew of course that she wouldn't always be single, but it made things easier on him when he didn't have to worry about whether or not a guy was a bloody git or not, and worry about what they had in store for his baby sister.
The two of them sat in silence for a while, until suddenly Lily shot up beside him, breathing heavily. In one quick movement, Al was on his feet with his wand drawn, looking around for signs of danger. When he saw none, his eyes dropped down to look back at Lily--his face one of a person startled.
"What is it, Lily? Give me heart failure..." Al said, keeping his wand at the ready, not sure what he was looking for. His immediate scan of the area around them didn't bring up anything but a lazy tentacle waving at him above the water. After a moment Al sat back down, wand still in hand. "Did you nod off or something?"

"What is it, Lily? Give me heart failure... Did you nod off or something?"
"I-I couldn't have. I mean, I was staring at the skies one second and then I was in a nightmare that Harry must have been living through even though I was still awake."
Her heartbeat was racing, eyes half glazed in shock. "Th-there was Vol-- he-who-must-not-be-named, and with the tiniest movement three innocent students just . . . fell. And there was blood. Everywhere." Pulling her feel out of the water, Lily shuddered. "We-we should probably be getting inside." Not like she wanted to. They'd be sent off to their dorms and expected to fall asleep, which she couldn't now, of course. Her heartbeat was beginning to slow, but still pounding heavily. Li moved to her feet, dipping them each in the water once more to rinse off the mud. If she couldn't get to sleep, then she'd be exhausted and the following night would most likely sleep longer than she would if she slept both nights. She was glad that she had left her wand in her cloak, otherwise she probably would have cast a spell on something-- or her brother, even-- and caused more damage than not. Brushing the grass off her clothes, she shuddered once more. "Let's go."[ nyah. my computer is being slowww. ][/blockquote][/blockquote]

Watching his sister strangely, Al got out of the water, pulling his socks and shoes back on. He stooped down and got his robes, pulling them back on and stowing his wand away in his back pocket. "Hey it was...just a dream, Lily," he said softly, still watching her. He would have hugged her to him, but seeing as they were older now, he didn't know if she would find that comforting or not.
"I mean, Voldemort's gone," he said firmly. "And say the name, would ja? Dad would go mad if he heard us going around calling him those old names. It's like calling Bellatrix 'The Dark Lady'. Pointless rubbish, yeah?" He ran his hand over his hair, trying to smooth it down and tame the wildness, if only a little bit.
"And Dad and the Ministry won't let it come to that again," Al said, his voice even softer as he touched Lily's arm and began to walk back to the castle. "Y'know that, right? You're safe, especially in Hogwarts."

"Sorry. Didn't know if you would approve or not if I called him Voldemort." Lily gave a forced smile. "But . . . what if someone else rises up after him? Hogwarts clearly wasn't safe before, when Harry lived here, so why would it be now?" Shying away when she felt her brother's touch, she took a moment to relax again. After a moment they reached the castle and she knelt down to grab her cloak and shoes, pulling them close to her stomach. She could feel the hard form of her wand just a layer of clothing away, just within reach if she needed to do something.
Li pressed her fingers to the bridge of her nose, pushing on each side. Allegedly, that would make headaches go away; but she could still feel the pain as it was slowly beginning to creep up on her. It wasn't often that she got headaches; she disliked them immensely. Trying to distract herself both from the 'vision' and the ache, she murmured, "So, what about you? How was your second day? Any girls?" Her laugh was strained, but not forced. She might as well have as much fun as she could, knowing that she'd be unable to sleep for some time.
