t is very obvious right from the get-go that Marina is incredibly, painfully shy. Talking to someone she doesn't know is near impossible for her, and even responding to a professor in class is hard. Any friendships she has formed are the only way she can talk to people. On occasion she's been known to work up the courage to talk to someone new, or to do something that she normally wouldn't. The worst thing that can happen is for her to do something that ends up with peoples' eyes on her. She can't stand being the centre of attention in any way, though she dislikes being ignored completely.
Whenever she does work up the courage to do anything, there is always the chance that she'll be hurt by it. Marina is known to be a bit of a crier; the littlest of things can send her into tears, and she hates it. She hates being a cry-baby, she hates letting herself get hurt by other people, but she can't manage to work past it. Her confidence has always been rather low, too, which doesn't help anything in the least.
Friendships are not something she forms easily because of this. Marina is quite the loner, and has learned how to have fun when on her own. She's become quite the bookworm, particularly recently, and she's very quiet. Marina's voice is never loud, usually quieter than is necessary in any situation. It's another effect of not wanting to attract attention to herself.
However, if anyone comes to her, she can be very welcoming. Marina is good at understand different points of view, and is happy to listen to anyone's tales of woe. Marina's mother has always claimed that she gives the best hugs, and Marina herself believes that hugs are the best medicine for anything upsetting. Since she's patient and fairly cheerful, helping people is something she loves to do, just as her mother always did.
What no one has ever seen is Marina's wilder side. When she's on her own, usually up in her dorm when no one's around, she'll sing to herself and dance like any teenager might. She particularly enjoys doing this at home with her music blasting, but she'd be mortified if anyone caught her at it. Still, despite her shy exterior, deep down she's just a normal girl who likes to have fun at school.

OVERALL DESCRIPTION;;
Typical is Marina's middle name, at least when it comes to looks. Though her hair is incredibly long, it is a very usual light brown colour that matches that of half the people she meets. The longer it gets, the more wave her hair seems to gain, though it's not too much effort to straighten it. She often wears it parted off-centre or braided into long pig tails. Her eyes are a bit more uncommon, in an odd shade of green that complements her skin tone. They're nothing special in shape, though. Nicely shaped, spaced evenly apart on her face, with fairly normal eyelashes. As for her eyebrows, they're a couple shades darker than her hair and fine curved over her eyes.
As for her lips, they are fairly thin, her mouth of average size, though she has a bright smile. Her nose is delicately pointed and small, and her cheeks are in an almost constant state of rosiness. Her chin and face are rather thin and pointed, as well as looking a bit delicate. In fact, her entire body appears delicate, as she's very thin. However, she's never broken a bone before, nor really ever injured herself, so she carries a none-too-obvious physical toughness about her, even if she's not particularly mentally tough.

Marina's history is a troubled one, but one of which she remains blissfully unaware. Her parents met on a rather dark, rainy day in the Leaky Cauldron, where Helena Rudd was working as a barmaid. Mark Pastor was a man on the run from having been an accomplice to a murder, an act that would get him at least twenty years in Azkaban, knowing that the Ministry would catch up to him eventually, but still wanting every second of freedom that he could steal. Helena was used to flirting with customers; it was part of the job for the young woman, but Mark caught her eye. He was mysterious, attractive, and carried an aura of danger around him. One could claim that it was love at first sight for each of them, but they knew very well that it was not.
Mark, of course, wasn't seen back at the Leaky for quite some time, but he did return every couple weeks to spend those quiet moments with Helena. Eventually, though she still knew little about Mark's past, Helena and Mark decided to marry secretly, and not long afterwards, Helena found herself pregnant with what would be her little Marina. Mark still 'travelled' a great deal, and he pretended that it was for his work, though he was at Helena's side at Marina's birth, overjoyed to welcome his daughter into the world. However, that was the last day either of them would see him in person. Later, Helena discovered that he had turned himself in in the hopes of eventually getting out of Azkaban to return to his new family. She never told a soul, especially not Marina, what her first husband had been.
Little Marina had a loving childhood, one spent with only her mother as she had no other family. Often she was brought to the Leaky Cauldron so that her mother could keep working to feed her daughter, and she delighted in meeting all the different people that visited the pub. Sometimes she asked her mother what had happened to her daddy, but she never got an answer and eventually let it go. For six years it was only the two of them until Helena fell in love again, this time with someone very open about his past. Timothy Steward became the newest member of their little family when they married. Marina took a while to accept the new man, but eventually she grew to think of him as her father.
Otherwise, Marina's childhood was a very good one. A pair of loving parents that cared for her without spoiling her, a surprising lack of the childhood injuries that most children received, and early evidence of her magical powers. She never really got to spend time with other children, which may have contributed to her shyness at Hogwarts, but she never felt lacking in love or frienship. All too soon, however, the Hogwarts letter arrived, telling her that she was allowed to go to the school. Her parents had been telling her forever about how amazing it was, but Marina didn't want to go, didn't want to be seperated from her parents for so long. Eventually, though, they conviced her to go and she spent a lovely afternoon in Diagon Alley picking up her new supplies.
The departure of the Hogwarts Express was a tearful occasion for the entire family. Marina and Helena had never been seperated before, and it was hard on both of them. However, the train did leave with Marina on it, no matter how upset she might have been. Other first years joined her in her compartment, looking almost as scared as Marina was. Once the castle came into view, though, a lot of that fear evaporated to be replaced by amazement. The Sorting was plagued with distractions, and by the time Marina was called up, she was no longer scared, though she was still shy. Seeing all the faces at the house tables watching her was almost more than she could handle, but the hat was quick, declaring her a Hufflepuff.
That first year was the hardest, being away from home. Thankfully it was also very busy, enough that she got distracted and the time passed quickly. Every holiday she went home to visit, and by the time second year came around she was no longer scared of being away from home, since they were just a letter away. The next few years passed fairly well, though Marina still had very few friends. Her marks were quite high, her OWLs astonishing even to her. Many times she debated playing Quidditch, but each time her shyness and fear of heights kept her away.
