OVERALL PERSONALITY;;
•••Whimsical•••
There’s no denying that Elena is something of a dreamer. She’s a hopeless romantic, and she’s highly imaginative. She knows what she wants, and she doesn’t care if it makes her eccentric or odd. She’s driven by pure whimsy, some days, and it’s a relatively common occurrence for her to be fascinated with something one minute, only to forget about it the next. It’s a tiny bit of escapism, because she can be in one world of thought one minute, and in a completely different one the next, without breaking her stride. She also loves a good laugh, regardless of the reason. Practical jokes amuse her, as do plays on words, and sometimes, people themselves.
•••Competitive•••
Although Elena has whimsical, dreamy qualities, those all disappear when there’s a competition at stake. Elena is a highly competitive little girl, at least when it comes to games of any sort. She can’t stand to lose, and she’ll sulk and pout if the game ends with her on the bottom. She knows this about herself, and she warns people ahead of times not to play games with her unless they want a real competition. Elena finds herself drawn into the world of whatever competition she’s in, and is capable of a clear, singular focus. Whenever she’s playing Quidditch, she’s very into the game. You won’t find her making jokes after she scores or messes up. She’s intensely driven, whenever she sets her focus on something.
•••Clever•••
She didn’t get into Ravenclaw for nothing. Although she might come off as absent-minded or just silly, Elena is actually a thoughtful girl. When she appears to be daydreaming, she’s sometimes thinking her way around obstacles or problems, and more often than not her endeavors are successful when she puts her mind to planning them out. She may not be able to recite chapters of books like some of her housemates can, Elena can come up with solutions for problems more often than not. Elena actually over-thinks most things, so she’s prepared for them more often than not. She’s more ‘clever’ than ‘book smart’, mostly because she’s busy with her latest fascination when she should be doing her homework.
•••One of the Guys•••
Her dreaminess may sound girly, but Elena is actually more of a tomboy. She grew up with two older brothers, and feels just as comfortable around boys as she does girls. She finds them much easier to understand. She’s part Veela, so this may have something to do with her affinity for hanging around with guys, but the truth is that she has no idea how to tap into that Veela side of her. Oh sure, she can flirt, just like any other girl, but she never really seems to be related to Veelas. She’s just…cute. Not seductive. Seeing as she didn’t have a strong female influence on her life, Elena doesn’t know how girls are really supposed to act around boys they like. So she keeps her friends and her flirting buddies separate, in order to keep from wrecking any friendships.
•••Affectionate•••
Elena is affectionate, not clingy. There’s a difference. She just likes to let people know when she’s fond of them. This means tossing an arm around her friends occasionally, or holding a guy’s hand when they’re on a flirting spree. Elena has no problem with flirting, but it’s usually all in good fun. She can’t seem to get boys to take her seriously. Affection goes the opposite way, too. She’s not afraid to let people know when she dislikes them, and she isn’t bothered by acting civil towards those she hates. She’s not one to easily forgive, and although she’s not quick to anger once you get her going it will be a while before she cools down.
•••Snobby•••
There’s a few bad components hidden beneath Elena’s harmless exterior. One of them is her long-standing temper and her inability to forgive easily, but another one is her habit of sizing people up from limited interaction and snobbing them if she doesn’t deem them good enough. After all, she was raised in a family of proud full-blooded wizards and witches, although she wasn’t one of them. The snobbiness rubbed off on Elena a little, although she’s not so much concerned with blood purity as she is with good humor and, horribly, she sometimes judges people based on social status and wealth. It was how she was raised, although she hasn’t managed to break the habit.
•••Vain•••
Elena was judged extensively on her appearance by her stepmother, and it taught her to be concerned with appearances, even from a young age. She doesn’t worship her own reflection, she just refuses to look messy. Her appearance is the only connection she has to her birth mother, so she takes great pride in it. Yes, this can sometimes make her over-confident, but she doesn’t go around thinking that she’s the most attractive goddess the world has ever seen—she just knows that her hair looks nice, and she doesn’t have anything in her teeth.
SOMETHING VERY WICKED
THIS WAY COMES LOVE
PLAY BY;; Kim Noorda
EYES;; an icy pale blue
HAIR;; a tawny shade, somewhere between blonde and brown
HEIGHT;; 5’9”
WEIGHT130
MARKINGS;; she has a few freckles on her back, and a scar on her elbow from Quidditch
OVERALL DESCRIPTION;;
Elena manages to be such a mix of her two parents that she looks like neither of them. Her father, a dark complexioned Russian man, and her mother, a half-Veela woman, both had dominant genes that combined in a surprising way. That is, Elena doesn’t really look like a Veela. She doesn’t have the blonde hair or the delicate facial features that most Veela descendants have. In fact, the only trait she really inherited from her mother’s side are her eyes—they’re an icy pale blue, with a slight upward tilt. However, her Veela eyes are set beneath rather thick, arched Russian eyebrows—an odd combination.
Elena has pale skin, which only tans if she really puts her mind to it, which usually doesn’t happen. Her hair is a tawny golden brown, which looks blonde in some lights and brown in others.

HISTORY;;
Ivan Kazakov was a good old-fashioned pureblooded wizard attending Durmstrang. He came from a nice pureblooded family, and he lived up to that family’s expectations by marrying a full-blooded English witch, Irina, who only had the tiniest bit of impure blood. He got a nice job with the wizarding government, and he had two sons with Irina—Dimitri and Andrei. His oldest son was two and his youngest was one year old when Ivan was called off to England on business. While away from home, Ivan met a charming young witch. She was very charming. She was half Veela, and really couldn’t be anything but charming. This young woman was so intensely charming that it was with some reluctance that Ivan returned to Russia and his family a few weeks later. And it was with great surprise that Ivan found the half-Veela witch at his doorstep nine months later, a tiny bundle in her arms.
She begged Ivan to take the baby, because she wasn’t ready to raise the child. She had thought she could handle it, but she couldn’t, at least not alone. And Ivan had a family and a well-paying job. He could afford another child, and she couldn’t. Ivan was so stunned that he accepted, not thinking to ask the woman where she would go next. He never even got her last name—just her first, Juliette. He never saw her again. Instead, he was left with an infant daughter—and illegitimate child—to try to convince his family to take care of.
His wife, unsurprisingly, hated the baby girl. She also hated her husband, for a while, and took her sons back to live with her parents in England for a few months. Eventually, Irina came to forgive Ivan, because despite his mistake in fidelity he was a good husband and a good father. She moved back to Russia, and begrudgingly accepted that she was going to have to raise Elena, the very personification of her husband’s affair. Needless to say, she never liked the girl. Especially as she grew up and looked nothing like anyone in the family. She found Elena annoying, obnoxious, and was insulted by her very existence. However, despite her dislike of the girl, Irina raised her dutifully. She took care of her, although she wasn’t warm about it at all.
Elena’s half-brothers, Dimitri and Andrei, actually loved her. They were quite fond of little Elena, and accepted her because they were too young to understand why their mother disliked her. Ivan, of course, loved Elena, but he always felt a little guilty when he looked at her. This didn’t stop Elena from becoming Daddy’s little girl, though. Elena took after her mother’s side of the family, which was obvious even from young childhood. With her pale hair and blue eyes, she did not look related in the slightest to any of the people she lived with, what with their dark hair and dark eyes.
When Elena was five and her brothers were six and eight, Irina’s father died, and her mother needed to be taken care of. The entire Kazakov family picked up and moved to England, in order to better care for Irina’s frail mother. This was quite an upheaval, seeing as there were major cultural differences, although the Kazakov children spoke a reasonable amount of English even before moving. Ivan Kazakov got a job in the Ministry of Magic, just as high up a he’d been in the Russian equivalent, and life resumed. It was just in a different country.
As Elena grew, she began to notice how the adults in the family treated her, like she was something to be ashamed of. This had an affect in two ways: it turned Elena into a prideful, competitive little thing, and it also caused her to grow closer to Dimitri and Andrei. Dimitri was a little older, a little more driven and ambitious, and it was easier to grow close to the kinder, quieter Andrei, but all three siblings were very close. Dimitri was the oldest, and thus the first of the Kazakov children to get his letter from Hogwarts. He was sorted into Slytherin, and he was immediately accepted by his housemates because he was full-blooded and reasonably wealthy.
This was the first event that marked Irina Kazakov’s transition to pureblood supporter. Her family was almost pure, and her son was in Slytherin. And of course, she had reason to hate those with mixed blood—the woman who had seduced her husband had both Muggle and Veela blood running strong in her veins. Irina began to show her support for this new Dark Lady, although she was subtle about it, and she tried to pull Ivan and her sons over to her side. Ivan, of course, had no intention of joining the Dark Lady—he had no true desire to be rid of mixed bloods anymore. Ad Dimitri and Andrei didn’t exactly agree, either. Dimitri, being a Slytherin, was surrounded with such ideas and ideals all the time at Hogwarts, and he was thus a little more sympathetic to the Dark Lady’s cause.
Andrei (and Elena, obviously), however, had no intentions of helping the pureblooded mania, and he already had his own opinions by the time he followed Dimitri to Hogwarts and was sorted into Ravenclaw. Elena found her home a little disturbing without her brothers there, because there was nothing to stand as a buffer between her and her stepmother. Irina was becoming more cold and condescending as of late, what with her newfound beliefs in the Dark Lady. The Kazakov house was a house divided, and the relationships in it were becoming strained.
Elena was thrilled when she got the letter that would allow her to join her brothers at Hogwarts. Her father was often away at work, leaving the large house unoccupied except for Elena and Irina, which was…uncomfortable, to say the least. Elena was sorted into Ravenclaw with Andrei, and she was glad to get away from home. When her Hogwarts letter came, Ivan finally told Elena the full story of her birth mother, and how she had come to live with the rest of the Kazakovs. He figured she deserved to know before she went off to school.
As the years progressed, the quiet demeanor that Elena had to adopt around her stepmother gradually dissolved, and her strong dependence on her older brothers and her father lessened until she was capable of taking care of herself. However, many changes took place that were not pleasant at all. For example, the pressure from both Irina and the rest of the Slytherins finally made Dimitri a full supporter of the Dark lady’s cause. He doesn’t bear any ill will towards his little sister, but he’s technically still a Death Eater supporter. Dimitri drifted away from Andrei and Elena, joining a society that was not familiar to them.Dimitri graduated, and the rest of the Kazakov household is holding its breath to see which way he will go now that he’s in the real world.
Elena was a late bloomer, and only grew into her looks in her sixth year. She’s still a little gangly, but her features look more natural than they did. Although she has Veela blood, she doesn’t really know how to use it, even to this day. All her attempts have basically failed, and she’s gotten to thinking that she’s defective, seeing as she’s not seductive at all. Each year that Elena comes home for the summer, she notices Irina looking at her with more and more disgust. Whether it’s the fact that she looks like her birthmother, or just the fact that she’s not one of Irina’s precious purebloods, Elena wants out of the Kazakov house. She can’t wait to graduate next year.
